Nous autres, dans nos corsets, nos souliers, étroits, nos gaines ridicules, nous faisons pitié. La grâce se venge de notre science.” “In many ways they are closer to nature than we— their clothes, for instance and the shape of their shoes. Hence there is beauty in everything they do. But we, with our corsets, narrow shoes, and tubu- lar clothing, are lamentable objects. We have gained science at the cost of grace.”
