Recognized as a superb colorist in his own day, his forest interiors are richly painted with warm browns, oranges, golds. Our painting was done the last year of the artist’s life and has a distinctive poignancy in its unusual focus on the unpopulated path into the woods, illuminated by sunlight. It is signed and dated to the last year of Diaz’s life.
